Day 23 – Randolph

I left a blank space beside Randolph for the lovely Susan,   I hope that you don’t mind having your portrait done beside Randolph later this week Susan.  Randolph insisted that you two be painted together since you two are so inseparable!

Day 21 – Mum

I have always wanted to paint Mum.  This was the quickest I had ever painted because I didn’t want Mum to sit for too long and I’m pleased with how it turned out.  I think i getting slightly quicker with these portrait studies.. Hopefully they provide enough information to go on and do longer more extensive paintings.

Day 20 – Selfie

Another person cancelled on me.  Not to worry because there’s always one person willing to pose for me.. and that’s myself!.  My coach set me the challenge of painting the ‘me’ a year from now. All I can think of is that I’ll be happy in the not too distant future!

Day 19 – Sophie

My original model today cancelled on me and then my sister called me out to the beach to help her with the kids. So I decided I would have to do a quick sketch on the train of my niece, Sophie. I would have liked to do a more accomplished piece but.. Family is more important!

Day 17 – Khanh Doan

Not an easy portrait today. I forgot to tell Khanh not to wear any make-up but that’s OK, she looks good either way.  I didn’t quite get her likeness, although I think with these exercises its difficult to concentrate on tone, colour and likeness. To get 2 out of 3 is not bad.

Thank you Khanh, I will have to paint you again!.

Day 16 of my portrait a day project. Thanks for sitting for me Isabelle. Sorry I couldn’t do a better job.. Not one of my best works but I have to remember how hard it is what I’m doing. To capture a persons likeness in one sitting is not easy. I also had a problem with the light today.

Day 15 – Lisa-Maree

Thank you so much Lisa-Maree for assisting me today and being an absolute beautiful person to paint.

I’m half way through my portrait a day studies and they have been teaching me so much about myself.  I was feeling frustration whilst doing every one of these drawings and paintings thus far.  Given any other time I would have abandoned a lot of these works, without seeing it through to the end.  Now I know to keep working because there’s bound to be a result that you can either learn from.. or be proud of!

Day 14 – Train Sketches

My friend cancelled on this days sitting so I thought it a good time to go to the art store and get some supplies.  Why not draw some strangers on the train while I’m in transit!
